Ring in the New Year with new bling? Wedding planning tips from our event manager

Congratulations! You are newly engaged and can’t wait to begin planning the most wonderful day with your partner. But where do you begin?

At Omaha Performing Arts, we host hundreds of special events at the Holland Center and Orpheum Theater including bridal showers, weddings and receptions. I connected with Caitlin Knopik, our event manager here at OPA. She shared her best advice on where to start when planning your big day!

1. Shout it from the mountain tops
First start by telling your family and friends! They want to join in on your happiness as well. This is also a great time to start thinking if who you would like in your bridal party and who you want standing by your side on the big day.

2. Decide on a date and location
Getting engaged is so exciting – and yes, you want to spend time celebrating. However, if you have a specific date or location in mind for your wedding, reach out to the venues as soon as possible. Nothing can ruin the mood more then finding out your location is already booked.

3. Set a budget
Setting a budget is extremely important at the beginning of wedding planning. Zeroing in on how much you’re planning to spend will help establish what you want and what you can afford. Once you have the budget set, you can begin the fun of planning.

4. Schedule tours and meetings
You’ll conduct many tours and meetings over the course of wedding planning including venues, caterers, photographers and florists. Be sure to be prepared with questions and what your vision is for each. Let them know your budget and what you are interested in. Take advantage of what your vendors can offer you during the planning process. Does your caterer offer free tastings? Does your photographer offer discounted engagement sessions? Those perks can save you money and time.

5. Enjoy the day!
Many brides don’t get the chance to enjoy their wedding day. Have faith in your vendors and other helpers that they can assist you on this day. Remember to relax, have fun and be married!    

Bonus Tip
To avoid receiving junk mail in your personal email, set up a wedding email address! Setting up an email specifically for planning will help cut down on spam and junk emails to your personal email address and it allows you and your groom to both be in communication with your vendors.
