The Human Resource Association of the Midlands (HRAM) diversity and inclusion committee named O-pa as one of three local organizations committed to diversity and inclusion efforts.

Omaha Performing Arts was named an “Emerge” award winner earlier this month, recognizing our ongoing commitment to implementing our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) policies.

At O-pa, we believe an inclusive work environment allows us all to reach our greatest potential and achieve the greatest benefits for our patrons. Our IDEA employee committee was formed in 2017. The group devotes special attention to issues of equity, and also offers training opportunities for staff and volunteers, provides activities focused on different cultures, creates conversations around important books and movies and participates in special community events like Heartland Pride and Cinco De Mayo.

We recently announced Voices AMPLIFIED! an ongoing social justice initiative to amplify artists in diverse cultures. Throughout the 2020/2021 season, this series will partner with performing artists who reflect on Black history and racial equity to amplify Black voices and encourage community conversations.

While work continues, our IDEA successes so far have happened because IDEA efforts are valued by our entire organization, including senior staff who promote and support these initiatives.

O-pa was one of three local organizations to receive the HRAM award. Other winners include Heartland Family Service and Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.
