Scaggs' global, five-decade career includes several Top 40 hits and a Grammy®. Scaggs is set to perform the hit tunes from his Grammy®-nominated album Out of the Blues. These melodies showcase his energetic vocals and gritty guitar in renditions of classic blues songs. He covers the greats such as Bobby "Blue" Bland and Jimmy Reed. Backed by a gifted band, Scaggs will also perform new originals and many of his greatest hits. Songs include: "Lowdown," “JoJo” and "Lido Shuffle.”

Showcasing powerful Afro-Colombian and Afro-contemporary dance with live music and singing, Colombian dance troupe Sankofa Danzafro presents “Accommodating Lie,” a full-length work by Rafael Palacios which seeks to dismantle stereotypes and beliefs about and around the black body and what it means to be of African descent.   

In a series of emotional solos and duets, seven Sankofa dancers embody decades of slavery, racism and the “exotic” label western colonizing culture has assigned to black bodies.

Born and raised east of the Los Angeles river, Las Cafeteras’ Afro-Mexican beats, rhythms and rhymes deliver inspiring lyrics that document stories of a community seeking love and justice. Using traditional Son Jarocho instruments like the jarana, requinto, quijada (donkey jawbone) and tarima (a wooden platform), Las Cafeteras use music as a vehicle to build bridges among different cultures and communities and create “a world where many worlds fit”. 

LA Times described Las Cafeteras as “uniquely Angeleno mishmash of punk, hip-hop, beat music, cumbia and rock … live, they’re magnetic.”

Yet there are millions of venom toxins in nature that remain unexplored. Biomedical scientist and inventor Zoltan Takacs collects snake, scorpion, jellyfish, and other venoms from around the world. Back in the lab, using cutting-edge genomics, he creates combinatorial venom libraries to identify leads for novel medicines.
