Labor Day weekend was a busy one for community events! O-pa was a first-time sponsor at AfroFest Omaha, which drew over 3000 people to Stinson Park on Sept. 4 to celebrate African culture. The annual festival began in 2018 and is organized by Afromaha — an organization created by Africans living in Nebraska whose mission is to connect people, foster creativity, and engage the African diaspora in the local community.

We also hosted our last Music at Miller Park concert of the summer with Big Wade & Black Swan Theory! North Omaha native Lewade “Big Wade” Milliner is a celebrated musician widely recognized as one of the pioneers of Nebraska’s soul music scene. Nearly 300 people attended the free concert. One patron shared that even her 87-year-old mother was “movin’ and groovin’ to Big Wade and the Black Swan Theory.”

Music at Miller Park was created in partnership with Nelson Mandela Elementary School, Minne Lusa and Miller Park Neighborhood Associations and other community partners. Enjoli & Timeless and Dani Cleveland also performed in the series.

Stay tuned for more community events and free music in the parks next summer! You can also join our email list to get updates.
