Sensory Inclusive Performances
A select number of Omaha Performing Arts performances are designated as sensory inclusive for those with sensitivities to light, loud noises, or surprise elements of a show. These productions are presented in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Subtle changes to technical elements may include:
- low house lights
- the removal of strobe and fog effects
- avoidance of sudden changes in amplified sound
Guests may use a break area and are welcome to bring headphones, ear plugs, security objects, and tablets into the performance venue.
Sensory Kits
For performances that are not modified to be sensory inclusive, the Orpheum Theater is still equipped with on-hand sensory kits and noise-canceling headphones for patrons to check out at the House Manger’s desk with an valid ID. Kit materials include sunglasses, headphones, verbal cue cards, and fidget items.
Binoculars
Binoculars are available to check out from the House Manager’s desk at the Orpheum Theater with a valid ID.
Social Experience Narrative/Sensory Guides
View the Orpheum Theater’s Social Experience Narrative to learn what to expect when visiting the venue for a performance.
All Broadway performances are reviewed by a Neurodivergent O-pa staff member and created in partnership with Sensory Access. They provide guides to moments and sensory difficulties that can be experienced while viewing the show. Check below for current guides, which generally become available the Wednesday following opening night of a Broadway performance. Non-Broadway Sensory Inclusive performances may also have a Sensory Guide available the night of the show for patrons to use.
