The Broadway League recognizes Omaha Performing Arts President Joan Squires with Samuel J. L'Hommedieu Award for Outstanding Achievement in Presenter Management

New York, NY (May 24, 2017) - The Broadway League has recognized Omaha Performing Arts President Joan Squires as Broadway Presenter of the Year. The Broadway League presented Squires with the Samuel J. L’Hommedieu Award for Outstanding Achievement in Presenter Management earlier this month at the League’s Spring Road Conference in New York. The national trade association’s touring Broadway awards recognize contributions of individuals displaying exemplary service to the Broadway industry and are innovators of their craft. Lauren Reid, Chief Operating Officer of The John Gore Organization, the leading developer, producer, distributor and marketer of Broadway theatre worldwide, presented the award.

Joan Squires was recognized for her contributions to the Broadway industry and the arts in Omaha. She currently serves on the Broadway League’s Intra-Industry Committee, Audience Engagement Committee, National High School Musical Theatre Awards Committee and Legislative Council and has served previously on several other committees. She also moderated a panel at the League’s Spring Road Conference.

The League’s 700-plus members include theatre owners and operators, producers, presenters and general managers who present in nearly 200 markets in North America. Among The League’s many programs are co-presenter of the Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards® and the National High School Musical Theatre Awards.

Omaha Performing Arts is a previous recipient of the League’s National Education Grants and board chairman John Gottschalk and board member David Slosburg have both been recognized as a “Star of Touring Broadway.” Squires has received several local and state awards for her arts leadership, including the Governor’s Arts Award in Nebraska. She has served on numerous National Endowment for the Arts grants panels and has spoken at various national conferences.
